The labor market in Moldova is characterized by pronounced gender gaps in labor participation, employment, and wages, that negatively reflect on women, in most cases. The lack of services and prevailing gender norms and stereotypes lead to limited participation of women in the labor market, which compared to educational levels and attainments still represents a lost opportunity for country economic development and for both public and private sector employments. In recent years, the national regulatory framework has been improved to facilitate the access of parents to the labor market. Despite these legislative changes, parents still face various difficulties, among the main reasons being the lack of institutions that can offer preschool education services.
A recent UN Women study, conducted by Centre Partnership for Development (CPD) identified that to improve quality of employment and women's earnings, there is a need to increase the quality and access to of childcare services. Following the consultation of the national legal framework, but also of the international experience, 4 alternative child care options have been outlined that come to ensure a balance between the needs of employees with children under 3 years and employers.
The event is organized by UN Women Moldova in partnership with AmCham Moldova and aims to discuss with the private sector options and incentives for retaining women employees at the market through alternative childcare options.
