On April 14, members of the Legal Committee met for an online presentation on "Competition and state aid. Strategic aspects in the context of COVID-19"
The main conclusions drawn are:
• Competition law continues to apply even during a pandemic;
• Certain forms of collaboration between competing companies could be allowed, if they meet the exemption criteria provided by the applicable legal framework (e.g. if they pursue the supply of essential products and their efficient distribution during the pandemic);
• Before implementing certain business decisions considered appropriate and beneficial to consumers, businesses should consult with the competition authority on their compatibility with competition rules;
• State aid schemes implemented by EU member states to alleviate the economic shock brought by the pandemic can be a source of inspiration for the Government of the Republic of Moldova.
