Promoting positive mental health in the workplace can be hugely beneficial for businesses. International research shows that staff with good mental health are more likely to perform well, have good attendance levels and be engaged in their work. However, it can be difficult for employers to tackle this issue and manage mental health risks in the workplace.

One of these risks is Burnout Syndrome - a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. Earlier in 2019, the World Health Organization included burnout syndrome in the 11th Revision of the International Classification of Diseases as an occupational phenomenon. Because it can be chronic in nature, affecting both the health and performance of employees at all levels of organizations, prevention strategies are considered the most effective approach for addressing workplace burnout. Understanding the issue, recognizing workplace factors, being aware of signs and symptoms and taking pro-active steps for prevention can help reduce the impact of burnout on employees and workplaces.

We are happy to invite you to learn more about the symptoms, consequences and solutions for this problem from our guest – psychologist Camelia Dragomirescu (Romania). This session of "HR over coffee" is organized in partnership with Moldovan-Swiss project MENSANA – "Support for the reform of mental health services in Moldova". The event takes place within the frames of the international campaign "16 days of activism against gender-based violence" (25 November-10 December), whose theme in 2019 is Decent Work for All.
